Birds on a wire

Don't those stitches look like birds on a wire? Or is it just me who sees them? :) And I didn't decided yet, what is it that I see on the wrong side:
Cast-on an odd number of stitches 
Row 1: k1, *sl1yo, k1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif
Row 2: sl1 wyif, *brp1, sl1yo; rep from *, brp1, sl1 wyif
Row 3: k1, *sl1yo, brp1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif
Row 4: sl1 wyib *brk1, sl1yo; rep from *, brk1, sl1 wyib
Row 5: k1, *k1, brk1; rep from *, k1, sl1 wyif
Row 6, 8: sl1 wyif, purl across, sl1 wyib
Row 7: knit across, sl1 wyif
Repeat rows 1 - 8 until reached the desired length
