With this pattern you can knit a soft, reversible, cable/brioche stitch scarf
Cast-on a multiple of 12 + 1 symmetry stitch + 2 edge stitches
Row 1: k1, *sl1yo, k1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif
Row 2,6,10,14,18,22,26,30,34,38,42: sl1 wyif, *brp1, sl1yo; rep from *, brp1, sl1 wyif
Row 3,7,11,15,19,23,27,31,35,39,43: k1, *sl1yo, brp1; rep from *, sl1yo, sl1 wyif
Row 4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32,36,40,44: sl1 wyib *brk1, sl1yo; rep from *, brk1, sl1 wyib
Row 5,9, 17,21,25,33,37,41: k1, sl1yo, *brk1, sl1yo; rep from *, sl1 wyif
Row 13: k1, sl1yo, *[brk1, sl1yo] 2 times, c8f; rep from *, sl1 wyif
Row 29: k1, sl1yo, *c8b, [brk1, sl1yo] 2 times; rep from *, sl1 wyif
Repeat only rows 13 - 44 until reached desired length of the work

Abbreviations:
k - knit
brk - brioche knit
brp - brioche purl
sl1yo - slip 1 with yarn over needle
sl1 wyib - slip 1 purlwise with yarn in back
sl1 wyif - slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front
c8f - cable 8 front
c8b - cable 8 back
